Two contrasting summer monsoon seasons in the recent past decade: An observational study

چکیده
India experienced two extreme summer monsoons, 2007 (active monsoon) and 2009 (weak in the recent past decade. The characteristic features of these contrasting Indian monsoons have been presented. country received 11.8% excess 17.1% deficit rainfall during monsoon seasons, respectively. These large deviations encourage us to study influence meteorological factors on activity. distributions over India, latent heat flux, wind, Vertically Integrated Moisture Transport (VIMT), Divergence (VIMD) values layer 1000–300 hPa for domain, 0°–40°N, 40°–120°E seasons are evaluated. In active monsoon, (i) predominant low level southwesterly flow Arabian sea deflection winds Bay Bengal, strengthening tropical easterly jet stream, wide area extent easterlies upper troposphere, maximum strength troposphere (150 hPa) is observed around 10°–15°N 70°–75°E; (ii) position subtropical ridge more northward, i.e., 32°N; (iii) a moisture transport from Southern Hemisphere, Sea Bengal mainland, westward/northward coverage larger quantum flux seen; (iv) number mesoscale systems. reverse true weak monsoon. Positive (neutral) Ocean Dipole (IOD) La-Nina (El-Nino) conditions lead (poor) (2009) year.

The impact of aerosols above and around the Tibetan Plateau on the Asian Summer Monsoon during premonsoon seasons March-April-May 2007, 2008, and 2009 is investigated by means of remote sensing and radiative transfer modelling. Four source regions are found to be responsible for the high aerosol loading around the Tibetan Plateau: the Taklamakan Desert, the Ganges Plains, the Indus Plains, and ...
متن کاملA correlated shortening of the North and South American monsoon seasons in the past few decades
the demise of the northern NAM and delays the reversal of the cross-equatorial flow over South America, reducing moisture transport to the SAM and delaying its onset. In addition, the thermodynamic response to warming appears to cause local drier land conditions over both regions, reinforcing the observed changes in these monsoons. Although previous studies have identified the isolated influenc...
متن کاملrecent trends in the onset and withdrawal of summer monsoon over nepal
this paper presents the analysis of the onset and withdrawal dates and the duration of summer monsoon over nepal for last 63 years (1951-2013). the trend analysis revealed that both the onset and withdrawal of summer monsoon are delayed in recent years. the statistical analysis using cumulative deviation and worsley likelihood tests showed a step jump in mean withdrawal date after the year 1997...
متن کاملIndian Summer Monsoon Rainfall: Implications of Contrasting Trends in the Spatial Variability of Means and Extremes
India's agricultural output, economy, and societal well-being are strappingly dependent on the stability of summer monsoon rainfall, its variability and extremes. Spatial aggregate of intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall events over Central India are significantly increasing, while at local scale they are spatially non-uniform with increasing spatial variability. The reasons behind such ...
